Careers in year 7
It is never too early to start thinking about future career ideas, and it is a good idea to think about this as early as possible as this could help you with future decision making such as which optional subjects to take in the future.
PSHE – Careers education
You will be introduced to Careers education through PSHE lessons during form-time, where you will complete a STEPS for Year 7 work-booklet and you will cover topics including:
- What is work and employment
- Personal skills for working life
- hanges in the world of work.
Career stereotypes workshop
You will have the opportunity to take part in a careers stereotypes workshop within school with The Careers and Enterprise company and local business supporters and employees from a range of national employers.
The Career stereotypes workshop is delivered by The Careers and Enterprise Company with the Careers Adviser in school. The purpose of the workshop is to dispel some of the myths concerning careers suitable for particular groups of people. By the end of the workshop, students are able to understand:
- The meaning of prejudice and stereotype
- What stereotypes are found in the workplace
- Ways to challenge them
We have had a number of employees involved from Crowe Clark Whitehill, Lloyds Banking Group, West Midlands Police, RW engineering services and the Black Country LEP.
You will also have the opportunity to visit the in-school annual Careers Fair which we hold during national careers week with lots of employers, universities and training providers on hand to talk to you about your future.
