Best ever A level results

Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy is celebrating today following the academy’s best ever A Level Results.  The sixth form, rated ‘GOOD’ by Ofsted this year, gained an average improvement of a whole grade in just one year.

The results are a significant improvement from 2014 and the academy is particularly pleased with the number of A*-B grades gained across the sixth form.

Across the vocational and A Level subjects 65% of students achieved at least one grade at this higher level, an increase of 17% from 2014. In the core subjects of English, mathematics and all three sciences there was not only a 100% pass rate but over 70% of students in each subject gained the higher grades of A*-C.

In the last two years both A Level and Vocational results have improved by an average of one and a half grades.  The percentage of students gaining 3A*-E grades at A Level has doubled over the last two years.

Rose Bennett achieved some outstanding A Level results including an A* in Biology, an A* in Chemistry, an A in Mathematics as well as a B in English.  Rose has been accepted to study Natural Sciences at the esteemed Russell Group University, the University of Durham.

Bethany Lee, is another one of the successful Russell Group applicants, accepted to study Law at University of Birmingham.  She achieved A grades in both history and sociology, and a B in English.

Vocational subjects also saw a marked improvement this year, with more Distinction* grades than the academy has seen previously.  Lizzy Paddock achieved an incredible two Distinction* grades in Travel and Tourism, and distinction grades in IT, and hopes to fulfil her lifelong ambition of joining the police force this year.

The news is another boost for the academy, which improved from special measures in just sixteen months, gaining an Ofsted rating of ‘Good’ in all areas in May 2015.

Ofsted commended the ‘visionary’ leadership provided by the principal and senior vice principal, which has ‘transformed’ the academy.

Principal Paula Ward commented: “I am so proud of our students’ fantastic achievements.  Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy has been recognized as a good school with a good sixth form and the results certainly reflect this!”

Professor Toby Salt, CEO of Ormiston Academies Trust added: “We are delighted that results have improved by a whole grade, this is a fantastic achievement and one which absolutely benefits Ormiston Shelfield students as they plan their futures. This is testament to the hard work of staff and students and I wish all our school leavers all the very best in their endeavours.”
