Student Senior Leadership Team

"As a student of seven years at Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy, I can say, without a doubt, it is an environment which continuously strives for students to succeed and advance – both on a personal as well as an academic level. This is as true for the Sixth Form as for the Academy as a whole. I love the environment, atmosphere, and the teachers here at Shelfield – if I didn’t I wouldn’t still be here! The support available here at Shelfield is second to none, for example, students receive careers and educational advice whenever – and on whatever – is required; younger students receive support in the academy to help them in their first steps at secondary school. The opportunities in and after school are numerous – the school gym, sports facilities, drama, music, art, and much, much more… I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else."

The Student Senior Leadership Team is made up of a group of students who represent the interests of students in our Sixth Form and make decisions on a variety of student related issues. It is an integral part of the Sixth Form community and members are elected by their peers to represent the interests of the student body.

The roles and responsibilities of the Student Senior Leadership Team are broad and vary throughout the academic year. In the main they include:

  • Acting as the Sixth Form student voice - members are ‘go to’ people for the Sixth Form student body to communicate ideas to the Sixth Form team.
  • Organising social events in conjunction with the academy student leadership team.
  • Organising charity events and fundraisers for both local and national charities in conjunction with the academy student leadership team.
  • Leading community cohesion projects e.g. Our Duke of Edinburgh Award student volunteers successfully support local projects as part of their award
  • Mentoring younger students to support both emotionally and academically

The sixth form at Shelfield is a positive environment that pushes its students to succeed in all they do. The staff are very supportive and push us to aspire so that we are always improving ourselves, thus preparing us fully for not just school life but for our life beyond. The opportunities that have been offered to me over the years have played a key role in developing my confidence and people skills, predominately through the opportunities within the arts. I am grateful for this support and for the range of opportunities offered to me as I believe they have shaped me into an individual who is capable of succeeding and reaching my full potential.
