Thank you for your interest in Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy Sixth Form, rated by Ofsted in May 2015 as ‘GOOD’. Our academy values are: Aspiration, Positivity, Responsibility and Achievement. We believe these values represent our commitment to creating positive lasting memories for young people as well as ensuring outstanding academic achievement. At Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy, Sixth Form students are encouraged to have high aspirations, adopt positive attitudes to learning, be responsible young adults and as a result, celebrate fantastic achievement.
We welcome students into our Sixth Form who are committed to their studies and want to achieve. Our personalised, yet traditional curriculum ensures that students are challenged and engaged. We have high expectations of our students and as a result, achievement is high.
During the summer we celebrated the academy’s best ever Sixth Form Results with 100% pass rate in all A level and BTEC entries. Across the vocational and A Level subjects, 66% of students achieved at least one grade at the higher levels of A*-B. In 70% of A level subjects, at least 75% of students gained the higher grades of A*-C. Over the last three years, both A Level and Vocational results have improved by an average of one and a half grades, seeing improvements year after year. This year, students made more progress from their starting points than in previous years, with positive value added figures achieved in both A level and BTEC subjects.
The exceptional achievements of our students have allowed them the opportunity to continue their studies at some of the most prestigious universities in the country, with studies ranging from medicine to degree level apprenticeships with Rolls Royce.
We provide additional opportunities and guidance for our Sixth Form students ranging from work experience placements and residential experiences for our Year 12 students to providing support in completing UCAS applications. We have strengthened our links with industry and businesses, in particular Rolls Royce, KPMG, PWC and Jaguar Land Rover, and this has enhanced the opportunities available for students wishing to gain employment or who wish to access higher level opportunities.
In addition to this, we are the only secondary school in the Black Country to hold FA Centre status. Students who attend the Football Academy will combine guided learning hours in the Football Academy alongside their Sixth Form subjects. There is also the opportunity for students to stay on in Year 14 to follow our Apprenticeship Programme or to take advantage of the links we have with football coaching camps in the USA or our links with the University of Worcester to access higher education.
We have much to offer here at Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy and I hope that you take advantage of these choices to stay with us for the next two years of your education. Our mission is simple: we aim to raise achievement, remove barriers to learning and most importantly open doors for our young people to allow them to have the life choices and chances they deserve. This is an exciting time for you. Students at our Sixth Form are confident, respectful, responsible and successful and make us proud on a daily basis – we look forward to you joining us.
