Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy is pleased to have sustained its progress in GCSE results following its ‘Good’ Ofsted inspection earlier in the year. The improvements made in student progress in English, Mathematics and Science last year have been maintained and over a quarter of students have achieved the top grades of A*-B in these subjects.

The English Baccalaureate subjects; modern foreign languages (MFL), geography and history also saw increases in the number of students gaining A*-C grades and dramatic improvements in MFL showed 91% of students gaining an A*-C grade in Spanish and 83% in French.

There were some outstanding individual academic successes with more A*-B grades achieved at GCSE than in previous years.  Conscientious student Deah Javed achieved a phenomenal   2A* grades at GCSE, as well as 7 A grades and a Distinction grade at BTEC.

Melissa Barratt also celebrates success today, achieving 2A* grades, 7 A grades and 2 B grades whilst Charlotte Lee gained an impressive 3A* grades, 5 A grades and 5 B grades.

The academy is also thrilled at the successes of their Big Brother candidates.  Earlier in the year a group of students spent three days ‘locked in’ the Shelfield Big Brother house doing focused English work alongside a variety of Big Brother style activities.  Over three quarters of those participating were successful in gaining C grades in the subject.

Principal Paula Ward commented: "I am delighted to celebrate so many student successes today.  We have worked hard as an academy to improve from Special Measures to an Ofsted rating of Good in just 16 months and staff and students have worked together to achieve success.   We are continuing to make improvements to ensure that Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy becomes an outstanding centre of excellence."

Professor Toby Salt CEO of Ormiston Academies Trust said: “Congratulations to students who have worked hard towards their GCSE exams and to the staff who have supported them. We will continue to do everything we can to provide an excellent education to all students going forward."
